week 4 reading

Chapter 7 talks about the Home page of websites. It talked about the function of the home page, what should be included on the home page, and give examples on how to create one. This chapter talks a lot about what you need to keep in mind as you create the home page. Since the home page is usually the first page seen, it really needs to say a lot. It is easy to just cram too much on the home page, so there needs to be a process to weed out what is not important. A lot of the time, you can’t cover everything you need from the home page. It should be strong and have simple/easy to use navigation to the things not covered on the home page. After you’ve figure out what goes on the page, it talked about arranging the important information, using some hierarchy and placement to direct the focus of the viewer to the areas we want as designers. What I took away from all this is: consider the basic laws of design when arranging information, if you have a team you need one person in charge, and when you have the list of home page musts……. Slim it down where you can.
